THE GALLERY

At the Front Doors of Parr's Sewing Machine Shop Inside Parr's Sewing Machine Shop

Bruce and Shirley Rutter-Parr, long-time sewing machine repair specialists in Malvern, England, opened a retail sewing machine shop in Hereford. They stock a wide range of Bernina, Janome, Pfaff and Singer sewing machines.

We met Bruce and Shirley at Quilt Market several years ago. Shirley took several of our patterns home with her. We were delighted to see our Carousel Horse hanging in the shop!

Amanda Panda Quilt

Judy S. from Texas and her then 18 year old son attended the March 2010 Quilt Celebration in Dallas. Her son spotted our Amanda Panda hanging in our booth. He purchased the pattern and persuaded his mom to stitch it for his girlfriend's birthday.

Judy recently sent us pictures, saying that they were able to have it ready for the birthday.

A larger finished size was desired, so pieced bear paw squares, as well as strips and blocks of bamboo fabric, were stitched around the central panda design. Fur and other details were created with quilting. Two close-ups are below.

Great job, Judy!

Cabin Cats

Barbara Selby, owner of Barb's Quilt Nook in Kingsland, Texas, sent us photo of the Cabin Cats model that hangs in her shop. She chose dramatic blues and greens for the log cabin blocks.

Thanks Barb for sharing the photo.

Veline's Arctic Animal Quilt Veline's Arctic Animal Quilt

Veline A. from Alabama contacted us last spring. Her daughter-in-law was expecting and had chosen arctic animals for the nursery. We designed one for her. In exchange, Veline chose her own fabrics, tested the pattern, machine stitched the model as designed (left), and sent us a photo. But she also surprised us with a second design. Her daughter-in-law chose to put the animals in an Irish chain design (right)! And her teenaged son inspired the name of the new design: Awesome Arctic Animals

Thanks Veline!

Veline's Tennis Quilt

Veline A. from Alabama chose pretty pastels and a tennis themed border fabric to create a quilt from our Tennis Quilt pattern. The quilt was a gift for the new baby of her best friend's daughter (the tennis player). Veline used yellow fleece for the tennis balls so they would be fuzzy just like the real ones.

Lion by Donna

Donna M. from Texas purchased our Ludwig Lion pattern from us at the Dallas Quilt Celebration. The parents of the young recipient chose a "Prince of the Jungle" theme for their nursery. She said all Ludwig needed was a crown. She also added two more borders to create a larger finished quilt.

We think Prince Ludwig is quite charming! Thanks for the photo Donna.

Tomás Tiger as the LSU Tiger

The clever ladies at Bright Hopes Quilting in Mandeville, Louisiana created the LSU Tiger from our Tomás Tiger pattern. The stripes in the pattern were omitted as they used a realistic tiger-stripe fabric. Lettering was also added.

Many of our large animal patterns can be adapted as school mascots. Just add imagination!

Thanks Bright Hopes Quilting for sharing the photo.

Turtle by Claudia

Claudia B. from Minnesota stitched a turtle quilt for her soon-to-arrive grandson. Though she used our Myrtle Turtle pattern, we think this quilt needs a name change because it is all-boy! Additional borders make for a larger finished size. Thanks for the photos Claudia and enjoy your new grandson.

Soccer Quilt by Veline Soccer Quilt Detail by Veline Soccer Quilt Border by Veline

Veline A., a native of Utah now living in Alabama, stitched a Soccer Quilt as a baby/crib quilt for her friend's daughter who plays soccer and recently had her first child. The quilt was machine stitched and quilted. She chose to quilt cross hatching in the background and spirals in the border. Great job Veline. Thanks for joining our Gallery!

Myrtle Turtle by Karol

Karol A. from Colorado stitched a Myrtle Turtle quilt for her daughter who loves turtles. A scrappy Myrtle is featured in the center of the quilt and is surrounded by additional turtle designs from other sources. Look carefully and you will see turtle fabric, too!

Thank you Karol for emailing us the photo of this terrific turtle quilt.

Quilter's Advent Tree by Rhelda

Rhelda H. from North Central Texas chose gorgeous fabrics and customized our Quilter's Advent Tree to count down the days until Christmas. She used one each of the ornament designs provided in the pattern, then created additional designs so that each ornament is different! Thank you Rhelda for sending us the photo of your beautiful work.

Soccer Coach and Quilt Assistant Coach with Quilt

Cara from Ohio used our Soccer Quilt pattern to stitch two special quilts. Her husband (above left) coaches their son's soccer team. He holds the "crib" size quilt with a single soccer ball signed by each member of the team. Cara plans to add a new soccer ball each year signed by the team.

On the right is the team's assistant coach. His wall quilt features a single soccer ball signed by the team.

Cara was able to secure the signatures and stitch the quilts in secret. She surprised both coaches at the end of the season. Great job, Cara!

Ethan Sherri's Road Trip On the bed

Sherri from Ohio used her camera phone to snap these pictures. That's her grandson Ethan peaking out from under his new quilt. He has just turned two. Sherri used our Road Trip pattern in the center and surrounded it with a blue star fabric to create a twin size quilt. The backing fabric is a race car design. The quilt was made to match the transportation theme in Ethan's room. She says that Ethan loves it. So do we Sherri!

Football Quilt The Coach's Collage

Betty S. from Alabama stitched not one but ELEVEN quilts...one for each of the senior football players. She combined elements from our Football Quilt and Cheerleader Quilt to create the quilts. Each quilt was personalized with the player's number on the helmet. Iron-on transfers were used for the photo. Betty's friend embroidered the State Champions and player's name appliques.

Betty also created a framed collage for the coach. She repeated the football and helmet patterns used on the players' quilts and included photos of the team and cheerleaders. In this case the appliques were glued to the background rather than stitched. As Betty noted, our patterns are not just for quilts.

Thank you Betty for sharing your work. We think you are a champ for being such a great football mom!

Baseball Quilt

Alyssa S. from California customized our Baseball Quilt for her husband, a diehard Red Sox fan. She chose to use the fence only across the bottom and added the team name at the top. And, of course, no Red Sox quilt would be complete without a pair of (what else?) red socks! Thanks Alyssa for sharing the photo.

Amanda Panda

Carol B. from Florida stitched an Amanda Panda quilt for her five year old granddaughter. Completely machine stitched, this is an excellent example of adding multiple borders in varying widths to create a larger finished size. All of the fabrics used in the central design were repeated in the borders. The finished quilt measures 64" x 84" which fits nicely on the single bed.

Thank you Carol for sending us the photo of this special quilt.

Tennis Quilt

Meredith R. from Vermont stitched this twin size Tennis Quilt for her grandson. In addition to the four racquets, she scattered multiple tennis balls over the top. She writes that her grandson absolutely loves it!

Pocketful of Posies

From the owner of Spring Creek NeedleArt:

My customers ask me what I have hanging in my house. I used four flowers from our Pocketful of Posies to create this framed piece. Each flower was appliqued and quilted, then placed in a frame. The four frames were hot glued together. It's hanging in my laundry room. You have to admit--it's nicer to look at than all those dirty clothes.

The Sports Quilt

Sharon R. from Indiana sent us this photo of her grandson (a big Colts fan, hence the choice of blue) with his new quilt. Sharon chose to put the sports equipment from our Sports Quilt pattern into individual blocks with sashing in between. This is an excellent way to make the quilt larger than shown in our pattern.

Myrtle Turtle

Amanda Panda Up and Away

Annie F. from San Rafael, California shared four wall quilts: Myrtle Turtle, Amanda Panda, Up and Away, and The Spotted Pony. She hand appliqued them for the nursery for her baby girl due in September '03. We especially like her use of Winnie the Pooh fabrics in the turtle design. This is a great way to fussy cut a fabric. Annie chose to use a single stalk of bamboo, rather than three, for Amanda Panda. Up and Away features pastel fabrics and a small bunny as its passenger. Our Spotted Pony design was adapted for her little girl's room. The bear was omitted and the horse was stitched in pastels. Annie has been quilting for two years and stitches all of her quilts by hand. She has made Hawaiian quilts and practices the Japanese needlework technique of sashiko.

Great job Annie!

The Spotted Pony

Basketball Quilt

Sharon D. from Beaver, Pennsylvania stitched our Basketball Quilt. This quilt, like the Football Quilt she made below, will be used for a school raffle. Thanks for sharing with us Sharon!

Carousel Horse

Mary B. of New Caney, Texas used our Carousel Horse to stitch her entry for the Hoffman Challenge. She added the four corner animals to complete the design. Mary did a wonderful job on this quilt--so good in fact that it was selected to be part of the Traveling Quilt Show for 2001-02!

Congratulations Mary!

Francois Frog

Barbara B. from Chandler, Arizona stitched Francois Frog for her grandson. The frog was renamed "Maxi" after a favorite story character.

Football Quilt

Sharon D. from Beaver, Pennsylvania made a Football Quilt and backed it with a colorful football print. A self-described "quilt junkie", Sharon stitched this quilt for her son's Catholic School football team raffle. She states that previous raffles of quilts have been quite successful.

We especially like her choice of fabrics. The football fabric has great texture and the different shade of green makes the "end zones" really stand out.
